Chernobyl virus knocks out Norwegian business

Document Actions
A number of Norwegian companies today contacted the data security experts at Ibas AS after attacks by the so-called CIH-virus, also known as the Chernobyl virus. This virus first hit on the 26th of April last year and knocked out between 6 000 and 10 000 PC's.

The physical condition of the hard disk has made the recovery complicated. The work is still going on in our laboratories. - We are surprised to see so many private persons and companies being hit by this virus again this year. Remembering last year's strong demand we have however been prepared to receive a certain number of requests due to infected systems, Tormod Nymoen, Marketing Manager at Ibas explains.

In spite of the widespread damage last year many computer users have not yet installed the necessary security measures. Kongsvinger based Ibas AS last year helped at large number of private persons and companies who experienced black screens on their PC's. We recovered data from 60 infected PC's last year, caused by CIH, at an average price of Norwegian Kroner 8.000,-.

Your data can be recovered
CIH is known as one of the most destructive viruses existing today. Ibas therefore has a hotline service, + 47 62 81 01 00, where experienced technicians are working 24 hours a day, helping customers who have lost their valuable data.

- Ibas can recover the files on hard disks destroyed by the CIH virus. We already have done recoveries on systems from several countries that have been attacked by this virus, and we warn against misinformation that data are lost, Mr. Nymoen continues.

Destructive virus
CIH is a destructive virus, which overwrites parts of the hard disk. It also destroys the Flash BIOS, an important component of the PC. The virus is activated today, 14 years after the Chernobyl accident. The damage seems to be total, as it is no longer possible to access the PC. The virus affects often all the workstations of the network. No files can be opened and it is not even possible to start the computer from a floppy disk.
