British Army uses Ibas' technology in the fight against global terrorism
Ibas solution enables the army to analyse and capture computer-generated data to gain legally sound evidence against war criminals during and following the Iraq conflict.
The British Army announced today that it has successfully deployed, and will continue to utilise, Ibas' world-leading computer forensics solution to identify, capture and analyse data on computer equipment seized during and since the Iraq war. Provided by the computer forensics and data recovery specialist, Ibas UK Ltd., the solution offers the army an all-in-one solution with mobile capability that has been specifically built to meet the specific demands of conducting such investigations away from a laboratory environment, such as those experienced during the conflict.
A specialist unit from the British Army's Land Information Assurance Group (LIAG) were able to deploy the tools and technology quickly in the field and use it to find hidden files, emails and supposedly-erased information on the hard drives of seized computer equipment as well as other captured computer media. The computer forensic process is based on Internationally accepted standards combined with Ibas' experience and ensures that the original is not tampered with in any way and can be submitted as evidence of illegal activity.
Major John Pringle from the LIAG explains, "Before operations in the Gulf began, we decided to invest in computer forensics technology because we needed to be able to exploit captured media quickly and effectively. In addition, any evidence gained had to be legally-admissible and we knew that computer forensic techniques were far more thorough than other methods of data analysis. When I approached Ibas, I was particularly impressed with their knowledge and expertise in this area and the solution and services they offered me suited our needs exactly. Indeed, the Ibas solution proved extremely robust and reliable in what was a very harsh and challenging environment, all the systems remained fully serviceable throughout the operation."
Simon Janes, International Operations Manager for Computer Forensics and Data Recovery at Ibas UK Ltd., concludes, "Although the forensic workstations have been designed to assist in professional investigations while working on location, The British Army has deployed this equipment in one of the harshest, most challenging environments possible. I am delighted that our standards have met, and in some cases exceeded, our customer expectations."
